  • If we didn’t have color, the world wouldn’t be the same.
  • When some people have pictures to color, they treat colors like a silly game!

Holi – The festival of colors, popularly known as Basanta Utsav amongst Hindus is the festivity that signifies arrival of spring, end of winter, blossoming of love, joy and happiness, to forgive and forget, and live in harmony. It gives us the great message of being united as a community abstaining from any social distinction. Houston Durgabari, home away from home proudly celebrates Holi every year with glory and vigor. Any Hindu festival is incomplete without food, fun activities, live music and dance. At every step, Durgabari makes sure that the essence of these festivals are well adhered to our roots.

This year, Durgabari made sure that Holi was a free entry event with the provision of purchasing colors, water guns, Indo- American street food & pure Indian and American food at a very nominal rate. The traditional Holi special Thandai drink was also prepared by our community volunteers and enjoyed by the guests. The adults had tremendous fun playing with colors, eating mouthwatering food and dancing to their heart’s content on their favorite music numbers. The enthusiasm of our talented dancers led to announcing an impromptu dance competition that was enjoyed by the crowd immensely. Not only the adults, but the community kids had tremendous fun playing with colors, water guns (pichkiris) and treating themselves with their favorite Pizza.

It’s indeed amazing to see how numerous volunteers working tirelessly are trying to inculcate the religious & cultural values amongst our next generation through Durgabari, away from homeland, by organizing these traditional events every year. We are blessed to have our ‘Second Home’ named by our children!
