Saraswati Puja was celebrated on February 9, 2019, with traditional flair, led by the young generation of the community. It was a real pleasure to see our kids take an active role in various aspects of the organization. In addition to the traditional Puja, Anjali and Arati, Hate Khori or the ceremonial induction of child into the world of learning was performed. About 25 children were inducted; Durga Bari wished them a life full of good learnings. A huge contingent of excited kids participated in the Art competition, their creativity knew no bounds.
Both the Bangla school program and the classical dance program showcased the immense talents of our children and how Durga Bari has helped nurture them. Hilarious Children’s drama – an adaptation of Tagore’s Khyatir Birombona was presented by Kisholoy. Acting belied their age – they looked brilliant on stage. Excited kids participated in the quiz and it was a sight to behold seeing them pitting their brains against each other. Evening saw our domestic artists perform to karaoke – the audience loved the show.
Finally, the day was topped off with a happening bonfire – where the song and dance, fire and sparkle brought the curtains down on yet another fantastic Puja season. Hats off to the large contingent of volunteers and the Puja committee for a fabulous celebration of our tradition in our home away from home – Durgabari. They continue to remind us how lucky we are to have such an institution half way across the world from our motherland.
